Recent studies have shown that some people are mistaken in thinking what foods are healthy or vice versa. Researchers have conducted surveys and compiled a top list of foods that are mistakenly thought to be healthy or unhealthy. Of course, the obvious things, like the fact that sugary sodas are bad, are already clear. But there are foods that aren’t actually as healthy as you might think.
For example, are you sure granola is that healthy? And frozen yogurt? To answer these questions, the New York Times hired researchers and interviewed hundreds of nutritionists and people, and now you can see how misguided people are and what foods nutritionists recommend to eat.
For example, here are some foods that are not as healthy as you really think they are:
- granola bars,
- coconut oil,
- frozen yogurt,
- granola, granola bars,
- orange juice,
- processed cheese,
- milkshakes for weight loss.
For example, many people think that granola bars, orange juice, or coconut oil are healthy foods, even though nutritionists surveyed do not think these foods are healthy. These foods are not healthy because they contain a large dose of sugar.
And here’s a list of foods that are useful but underappreciated by people:
- Tofu,
- shrimp,
- hummus,
- red wine,
- sushi.
Of the dietitians surveyed, almost all considered these foods to be healthy, while people underestimated these foods and thought they were not quite right.
Foods that both people and nutritionists consider healthy:
- Apples,
- oranges,
- oatmeal,
- chicken,
- turkey,
- nut butter,
- baked potatoes.
All of these foods are actually sugar-free and are a source of carbohydrates and healthy fats.
Foods that are unhealthy and everyone (nutritionists and people alike) knows it:
- White bread,
- beef jerky,
- Diet Coke,
- cookies,
- fast food.
These are highly processed foods that contain unhealthy fats or empty carbohydrates.
Of course, you can listen to people and yourself, but you should not ignore the advice of experts. This little study showed that we don’t always listen to the advice of nutritionists and there are many underestimated foods.
